SWFR Assists in Dorset Search and Rescue Operation

Over the weekend, South Worcester Flood Rescue's volunteer team were deployed to assist other Surf Life Saving GB (SLSGB) Search and Rescue teams in locating a missing person in Dorset. Working alongside Wessex Rescue and BARB Search & Rescue, our volunteers joined a coordinated multi-agency response coordinated by Dorset Police.

This joint training and governance approach ensures that all SLSGB members are training to the same standard, enabling seamless inter-agency cooperation during critical search and rescue operations. The collaboration demonstrates the strength of the national SAR network and the commitment of volunteer-led organisations to save lives.

Dorset Police received a report raising concern for 49-year-old Jamie, who was reported to have left his home address at around 10:30am on Friday, January 9, 2026. The subsequent search operation mobilised resources across multiple organisations and jurisdictions to locate the missing person.

Our volunteers' deployment to Dorset showcases SWFR's readiness to respond beyond our usual operational area when lives are at risk. The experience gained through these operations continues to enhance our team's capability and reinforces our commitment to water-based Search and Rescue excellence across the UK.

We extend our thanks to Dorset Police, Wessex Rescue, BARB Search & Rescue, and all partner agencies involved in this operation. Through shared training standards and mutual aid agreements, we continue to strengthen the national SAR capability.
